Trip Overview
Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is one of the most beautiful trekking trails in Nepal. This trek takes you to the base of the Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world. Mt. Kanchenjunga is situated to North Eastern part of Nepal bordering with Sikkim(India), it falls partly in India and partly in Nepal. This trek offers you the most beautiful Himalayan scenery where you will have the best views of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Makalu and Jahnu Himal along with the views of Mt. Rothang and the Kabru group of peaks in the Sikkim side.
This trekking route passes through the Kanchenjunga Conservation area, this area is home to diverse flora and fauna found in this region that includes Himalayan black bear, musk deer, snow leopard, red panda, wild boar and many others. This trek offers variations of landscape ranging from alpine grasslands to sub tropical forests, passes through low river valleys, glacial moraine and over rocks and boulders. Along the route, you will also encounter mixed cultures, ethnic communities, and tribes where you will have the opportunity to understand their culture and lifestyle.

Day 01
Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon arrival at the airport our guide/representative will meet you and transfer to your designated hotel. As there are no activities planned for today, you may either enjoy the evening at leisure or take a self guided tour around the tourist market of Thamel.

Day 02
Kathmandu Sightseeing (trek preparation)
Today in the first half of the day we will visit some of the major UNESCO World Heritage sites, this includes the Swayambhunath temple, the oldest Buddhist monument in the valley and Boudanath, the largest Stupa in Nepal. Next we will drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square, situated at the heart of the ancient city of Kathmandu, full of ancient history, culture and architecture. Later in the evening we will spend planning and preparing for the trek.

Day 03
Flight to Bhadrapur (45min) and drive Ilam (4-5hrs)
Take the morning flight to Bhadrapur, Bhadrapur is situated to the south east part of Nepal, near to the Indian Border. Upon arrival get into a local vehicle and drive to Ilam, Ilam is a district largely covered by gardens with beautiful views. Upon arrival check into the hotel and later take a short walk among the tea bushes.

Day 04
Drive to Taplejung (1442m/6-7hrs)
Today we drive to Taplejung via Phidim. The drive goes across beautiful countryside view along the Mechi Higway to Taplejung.

Day 05
Trek to Mitlung (920m/5-6hrs)
Today we begin our trek. The trail passes through lush hills and several villages across terraced rice fields and thick Cardamom garden along the way and reach Mitlung for overnight.

Day 06
Trek to Chiruwa (1270m/5-6 hrs)
The trail goes through scenic pastures, small villages and farmlands along the Tamor river. The trail descends and ascends at several stretches and cross over the Chiruwa Khola and continue along the bank and reach Chiruwa. Chiruwa is a small village mostly inhabited by the Limbu tribe.

Day 07
Trek to Sukathum (1579m/5-6 hrs)
Today the trail goes through several villages like Taplethok, Tamewa, Hellok and Lelep and continue alongside Tamor River and descend towards Simbu Khola. Then we continue through the steep and narrow valley of Ghunsa Khola and arrive at Sukathum.

Day 08
Trek to Amjilosa (2308m/6 hrs)
Following the Ghunsa Khola we continue towards Amjilosa. The trail is an steep uphill climb on exposed terrain enjoying the beautiful landscape view, we reach the Tibetan village of Amjilosa.

Day 09
Trek to Gyabla (2730m/5-6 hrs)
Todays trail goes through forest filled with rhododendrons oak and bamboo and finally ascend to Gyabla village.

Day 10
Trek to Ghunsa (3595m/5-6 hrs)
Leaving behind the beautiful Gyabla village, we trek towards Ghunsa through beautiful yak pastures, green fields and larch forests and then descend down to the riverbed of Ghunsa Khola. Here we crossover the Ghunsa Khola and arrive at Ghunsa village. Ghunsa village is the last permanent settlement that we encounter on this route.

Day 11
Acclimatization Day
Today is reserved as acclimatization day. Gaining altitude to adjust with the surrounding is a must. We shall take a short hike around the ridges and hike and visit the Lpasan La Monastery. After spending some time there, we will descend back to Ghunsa.

Day 12
Trek to Khambachen (4050m/6-7 hrs)
Leaving Ghunsa, we trek through forests of larch and juniper along the bank of the Ghunsa Khola and cross over to Rambuk Kharka. From here the trail passes through the waterfall and the landslide area and proceed towards Khambachen with the beautiful views of Mt. Jannu and the Jannu glacier.
Khangbachen is a temporary settlement with small stone tea houses serving the needs of the trekkers.

Day 13
Trek to Lhonak (4780m/7 hrs)
The trail now enters a desolate landscape. There are no villages or houses on the trail
We will make our way above the terrains along the left side of the Kanchenjunga glacier to Lhonak campsite.

Day 14
Trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp-Lhonak (5143m/6-7 hrs)
Today, we head towards Kanchenjunga Base Camp following the trail along the glaciers on the northern ridges. The camp is also known as Pang Pema from where we get the mesmerizing and spectacular view of Mt Kanchenjunga (8586m) along with the skyline filled with snow-capped mountain ranges bordering Nepal , Sikkim and Tibet. After exploring the area for some time we return back to Lhonak.

Day 15
Trek to Ghunsa (3595m/6-7hrs)
We retrace our step back to Ghunsa descending past Khambachen while walking over the moraines of Kanchenjunga Glacier.

Day 16
Trek to Sele Le Camp (4290m/6hrs)
Today we trek to reach Sele Le Camp, we trek along a steep rocky trail to the right side leaving the trail to Gyabla. Most of the trail passes through the dense forest of Rhododendron and Juniper.

Day 17
Trek to Tseram (3870m/8 hrs)
Today might be the most challenging day as we cross over two passes on our way to Tseram. The Sinion La(4600m) and the Mirgin La(4620), marked by many prayer flags. Followed bay a steep descent to the bottom of the valley to Tseram where we settle for the night.

Day 18
Trek to Ramche (4580m/7 - 8 hrs)
Passing the moraines of Yalung Glacier into an ablation valley, we ascend towards Ramche. We also come across a lake and a meadow where we can spot the blue sheep grazing on the grassy hills. In the evening we will visit the small monastery at Ramche.

Day 19
Explore Yalung & Oktang Base Camp (4500m/7-8hrs)
Today, we explore Yalung and the Oktang Base Camp area. We will start early through the glacial moraines and challenging rocky path to Yalung glacier. After exploring for some we hike further and reach the Oktang Base Camp, from the base camp we can have the magnificent views of the Kanchenjunga south face and views of Kokthang, Rathong, and Kabru in the back ground.

Day 20
Trek to Anda Phedi (3390m/5 hrs)
Retracing the same trail, we trek towards Anda Phedi enjoying the view of the snow capped mountain peaks. Descending down the moraines of Yalung glacier we trek past Lipsan and Tseram and arrive at Anda Phedi.

Day 21
Trek to Tortong (2995m/5 hrs)
We descend towards Tortong through the densely forested path filled with rhododendrons and bushes. Overnight in Tortong.

Day 22
Trek to Yamphudim (2080m/7-8hrs)
Today the trail includes some difficult sections. We cross tow passes, the Lamite Bhanjyang and Dhupi Bhanjyang and descend down to Yamphudin. Yamphudin is a village inhabited by a mixed community of Sherpa, Rai, Limbu, and Gurung.

Day 23
Trek to Khebang (1915m/5 -6 hrs)
Leaving Yamphudin behind, we descend towards Khebang passing through valleys, waterfalls, and forest area. Crossing suspension bridges over several streams, we walk past small settlements alongside Kabeli Khola to arrive in Khebang.

Day 24
Trek to Khandembe(1440m/7-8hrs)
We continue through forested trail across several waterfalls with the views of the Kanchenjunga and the Kumbakarna himal to Khandembe.

Day 25
Drive to Birtamod (8-9hrs)
Today we shall take a long drive to Birtamod. We descend down from the hills to the warm and flat land of the Plains.

Day 26
Drive to Bhadrapur & fly to Kathmandu.
After breakfast drive for an hour to Chandragadi airport and fly to Kathmandu. Upon arrival check into the hotel and rest of the afternoon is free to rest and relax.

Day 27
Departure
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight with beautiful memories.
