Trip Overview

Everest Base camp Trek via the Gokyo Lakes is one of the most renowned trek in the Himalayas of Nepal. The trek takes us through the diverse landscapes of the Khumbu region in company with the majestic peaks, colorful Sherpa villages, unique Sherpa culture with their hospitality and the diverse flora and fauna of the Everest region. This trek offers the exciting opportunity to reach to the foot of the world highest peak across Gokyo valley after climbing one of the three high pass(the Cho la Pass) with amazing mountain view all along the way.

This journey unfolds with a scenic flight to Lukla, further to Namche Bazaar, the centre of Sherpa community and Dole, Machchermo and to the wonderful Gokyo valley. Further crossing the Chola pass, view points of Gokyo Ri and Kala Patthar  and finally to the Everest Base Camp.

Trip Itinenary

  • Day 01

    Arrival in Kathmandu

    Upon arrival at the airport our guide/representative will meet you and transfer to your designated hotel. As there are no activities planned for today, you may either enjoy the evening at leisure or take a self guided tour around the tourist market of Thamel.

  • Day 02

    Kathmandu Sightseeing

    Today in the first half of the day we will  visit some of the major UNESCO World Heritage sites, this includes the Swayambhunath temple, the oldest Buddhist monument in the valley and Boudanath, the largest Stupa in Nepal. Next we will drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square, situated at the heart of the ancient city of Kathmandu, full of ancient history, culture and architecture.  Later in the evening we will spend planning and preparing for the trek.

  • Day 03

    Fly to Lukla-Trek to Phakding (2652m/4hrs)

    This morning catch the early morning scenic flight to Lukla. Upon arrival meet our trek crew and proceed along the banks of the Dudh Koshi river through pine forests and crossing several suspension bridges to Phakding. The first part of the journey is a gradual downhill hike and then a steep uphill trek.

  • Day 04

    Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m/6hrs)

    The trail passes through evergreen forests of pine and rhododendron north up the Benkar valley crossing the Dudh Koshi to Monjo village. This small settlement of Monjo serves as the gateway to the Sagarmatha National Park, Sagarmatha National Park is home to several species of Himalayan flora and fauna. After crossing the suspension bridge, our trail winds up past the settlements of Jorsalle alongside the Dudh Koshi and the Bhote Koshi river. From here it is a steep uphill hike of about 2 hrs to Namche Bazaar, the biggest town in the Everest region.

  • Day 05

    In Namche Bazaar (acclimatization day)

    This day is reserved for acclimatization, as you ascend higher it is necessary to adapt your body with the surrounding atmosphere. There are several options how you would like to spend the day, you can either hike to the Everest View Hotel passing across Syangboche airstrip which provides stunning view of Mt. Everest and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. You also have the option to take a days’ hike to Khumjung or Thame village, these hikes helps us to adjust and adapt with the altitude gain.

  • Day 06

    Namche Bazzar - Dole (4,150 m/6 - 7hrs)

    Slowly climb up to Kyanjuma village with the beautiful view of Everest and Lhotse and then climb up to Mongla hilltop. From the ridge the trail descends down towards the Dudh Kosi until Phortse Tenga, from Phortse the trail climbs out of the valley and reach Dole after passing several Sherpa summer settlements and yak pastures.

  • Day 07

    Dole – Machhermo (4,470 m/4 - 5hrs)

    Today it is a steady climb through a scenic ridge above Dole through Lhabarma and Luza along the side of the valley, high above the river. The path is steep uphill, yet rewarding with magnificent view of Cho Oyu, Kantega and Thamserku until we cross the sandy spurs to Machhermo (4410m). The last major settlement on the way until Gokyo.

  • Day 08

    Machhermo - Gokyo (4800 m/4 hrs)

    Today, we climb up through a ridge which provides spectacular view Mt. Kangtega, Thamserku, Cho Oyu(north) and he valley of both down the valley below. The valley widens as we reach Panka and then it is a steep climb, soon we pass the first, second and reach the Gokyo lake. Gokyo village is situated by the end of the third lake with Cho Oyu at the background.

  • Day 09

    In Gokyo (Acclimatization day)

    Start early in the morning for Gokyo Ri(5357m). The climb is a steep uphill and takes about 2-3 hrs through winding trial, though the climb is tough yet the reward is commendable. The summit provides spellbinding views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu, Cho Oyo, glacial moraine and Gokyo village below. Return to Gokyo village for lunch, rest of the afternoon we may rest and relax or hike to the nearby view point to view the 5th lake.

  • Day 10

    Gokyo - Thangnak Kharka.

    The trek to Thangnak Kharka is across glaciers and completely through glacial moraine, we shall cross the Ngozumpa Glacier along the way, the largest glacier in Nepal and arrive at Thangnak Kharka for overnight.

  • Day 11

    Thangnak Kharka-Chola Pass(5368m)-Dzongla(4830m/8hrs)

    Today is a challenging day  in terms of gradient and time limit as we have to cover a longer distance than usual. Today we cross the Cho la pass, the trek begins with a gradual hike and gets more tougher and steeper as we near the pass. After crossing the Chola pass we traverse through some crevasses and descend to Dzongla where we stop for the night.

  • Day 12

    Dzongla-Lobuche (4940 m) 4 hrs

    The trail today is easy and mostly downhill with some ascents in some portion. We start to descend on a easy trail and upon crossing a bridge traverse through a grassy trail enjoying the view of Lobuche peak. Then a short ascent will bring us to a ridge with great views of Ama Dablma, Kangtege, Thamsherku and Taboche. From here it is a gradual descent to Lobuche.

  • Day 13

    Lobuche - Gorak Shep (5140m)-Everest Base Camp (5364m)(7-8hrs)

    Today is another tough day on the trail, today we visit the Everest Base Camp. The trail from Lobuche climbs steadily by the side of the Khumbu glacier over the lateral moraine and reach Gorakshep. Lunch will be planned at Gorakshep, after lunch with a short break, we head towards EBC. The trail heads alongside the Khumbu glacier moraine, Upon reaching the base camp, we can see the glacier. After spending some time at the base camp, we will return back to Gorakshep for overnight.

  • Day 14

    Gorakshep – KalaPatthar(5643m)-Pheriche(4210m)(7hrs).

    Wake up early at 4am in the morning and start hike to Kalapatthar, one of the best vantage points for spectacular sunrise and the best panoramic views of the Everest, Nuptse and the entire Everest range.  After enjoying the breath-taking views, trek back to Gorakshep for breakfast and then descend to Pheriche (4210m) via Lobuche and Thukla.

  • Day 15

    Pheriche – Pangboche(3930m) - Tengboche (3800m): 5 - 6 hrs

    Today is an easy day and the hike is mostly downhill. Descend Pheriche valley with spectacular views of Ama Dablam and join the main Imja Khola Valley, which we follow down to Pangboche, the highest permanent settlement on the approach to Everest. Dropping down to the rushing Imja Khola we then walk through rhododendron forests to Tengboche village, with the largest monastery in the region.

  • Day 16

    Tengboche - Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/6 hrs)

    The trail follows the Dudh Koshi gorge descending rapidly through the pine forests. The path eventually reaches down to the Phortse Tenga and further to Sansa and Kyangjuma and then finally to Namche Bazaar.

  • Day 17

    Namche Bazaar-Lukla (6hrs)

    Today is the last day of our trek, the hike is and mostly downhill except for a few uphill climbs. Descend down to the Bhote Koshi river and then it is a short uphill hike to Lukla.

  • Day 18

    Lukla-Kathmandu.

    Bid farewell to the spectacular Khumbu region and board the morning flight to Kathmandu. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel and rest of the afternoon is free to rest and relax or pursue your own interest.

  • Day 19

    In Kathmandu.

    This is also a reserved day in Kathmandu in case cancellation of flight due to unpredictable mountain weather. If you wish you can request for a day’s sightseeing tour or rest at the hotel.

    Departure

    Transfer to the airport for your departure flight homewards.
