Trip Overview

Jomsom Muktinath trek is also commonly known as the part of the Annapurna Circuit Trek. This trek takes you through diverse landscape with superb view of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri and the landscape changing from subtropical to alpine and to desert like landscape. This trek offers you the opportunity to explore ancient monastery, caves, local Thakali and Gurung tribe along with the magnificent mountain view.

This trek begins with a scenic flight to Jomsom, the capital of Mustang district. From Jomsom we move towards, Kagbeni and then to the pilgrimage site of Muktinath, this is the highest that this trek reaches. Further it move across the villages of Marpha, Ghasa, Tatopani, Ghorepani and finally ending at the beautiful lake city of Pokhara.

Trip Itinenary

  • Day 01

    Arrival in Kathmandu

    Upon arrival at the airport our guide/representative will meet you and transfer to your designated hotel. As there are no activities planned for today, you may either enjoy the evening at leisure or take a self guided tour around the tourist market of Thamel.
    Overnight in Kathmandu.

  • Day 02

    Drive to Pokhara (208km/6 hrs)

    The drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara goes along river banks, local villages, farm lands and beautiful mountain scenario. Along the way we shall stop to observe the scenic spot and also to stretch our legs. On arrival check into the hotel and relax or you have the option to stroll around the Phewa lake and visit the local market.

  • Day 03

    Fly to Jomsom-Trek to Kagbeni (2800m/3-4 hrs)

    Take the early morning short but scenic flight that gives a close up view of the Annapurna range to Jomsom. Upon arrival collect your gears and start trekking along the Kali Gandaki gorge. Despite the hindrance caused by the fast blowing wind the trail is quite scenic. After 3-4 hours of flat trail walk we finally arrive at Kagbeni along the banks of the Kali Gandaki river, the entrance to upper Mustang.

  • Day 04

    Kagbeni-Muktinath (3800m/4-5hrs)

    The trail today ascends up the Jhong Khola and then join the trail to Muktinath and continue passing the village of Khingar and Jharkot. Form here the trail rises up towards Muktinath. The trail offers cultural and natural beauty, the view of the Himalayas and the beautiful landscape. Muktinath is a pilgrimage site to both Hindus and the Buddhists, there is a Hindu temple and a Buddhist monastery standing side by side demonstrates religious harmony between Hindu and Buddhist in Nepal.

  • Day 05

    Muktinath-Marpha (2670m/6hrs)

    Today we trek back from Muktinath gradually through fields and poplar groves into the Kali Gandaki river valley. We continue our hike and reach the beautiful village of Marpha. Marpha is famous for apples, apple brandy and apple pie.

  • Day 06

    Marpha to Kalopani (2530m/5-6hrs)

    The trek to Kalopani passes through the Kali Gandaki valley with beautiful sight of high mountains, trees, villages and green pastures. On the way we will visit some of the villages and learn about the cultural heritage and the unique lifestyle of the Thakali people.

  • Day 07

    Kalopani to Tatopani (1200m/6-7 hrs)

    From  Kalopani it is a steep downhill walk through subtropical forest and lush vegetation, along the way we will come across several waterfalls with the magnificent views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri.  Due to the constant drop in the altitude, we get to experience the change in the air from cool to hot and humid. Explore the villages on the way and learn more about their day to day life. Upon arrival take a relaxing dip in one of the hot springs.

  • Day 08

    Tatopani to Ghorepani (2860m/6-7hrs)

    The trek to Ghorepani is a steep ascent gaining more than 1000m. The trail climbs uphill from the Gandaki river valley crossing the Durbin Dada and several small villages like Ghara, Sikha and Chitre and finally into Ghorepani.

  • Day 09

    Ghorepani to Tikhedunga(1500m/6hrs)-Drive to pokhara

    Early morning hike up to Poon Hill (3210m) for sunrise view over the mountain peaks along with the panoramic views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Machhapuchre, Nilgiri south, Annapurna I  and others. After the visit descend down for breakfast and after breakfast walk down to Nange Thati river basin and continue crossing several streams and rhododendron forest to Tikhedhunga. From Tikhedhunga hike further 2 kms to Birethanti, board on the waiting jeep and drive to Pokhara.
    Overnight in hotel.

  • Day 10

    Pokhara to Kathmandu.

    After breakfast drive to Kathmandu. Upon arrival check into the hotel and rest of the afternoon is free.

  • Day 11

    Departure

    Transfer to the airport in time for your departure flight.
